Accessibility and Flexibility

Starting therapy or coaching can feel like a big step, especially when you are already overwhelmed, exhausted or trying to hold everything together whilst quietly struggling underneath it all.

This page is here to answer some of the practical questions you may have about working with me, including session fees, accessibility, how sessions work and what support may feel right for you.

Can I Attend Sessions From Bed or Whilst Resting?

Yes. I understand that for some people, sitting upright at a desk, being visibly “put together” or even leaving the house can take a huge amount of physical, emotional or cognitive energy.

If attending sessions from bed, whilst resting, under a blanket, in pyjamas or in a space where you feel more comfortable and regulated helps make support more accessible for you, that is absolutely okay.

Many people I work with are navigating chronic illness, pain, fatigue, disability, burnout, anxiety, overwhelm or fluctuating capacity. I do not expect people to perform wellness in order to access support.

Do You Work With Disabled, Chronically Ill or Neurodivergent Clients?

Yes, I do.

I work with disabled, chronically ill and neurodivergent clients within both coaching and therapy, and have worked within this area for nearly ten years.

Alongside my professional experience, I also live with chronic illness and mobility impairment myself. Whilst everyone’s experiences are different, I understand personally the complexity of navigating environments, systems and expectations that are not always designed with accessibility, fluctuation or difference in mind.

What If My Energy or Health Fluctuates?

I understand that health, energy and capacity are not always predictable, especially when living with chronic illness, disability, pain, fatigue, burnout or neurodivergence.

Where possible, I aim to work flexibly around this. Sometimes that may mean switching to a shorter session, changing from in-person or video to a telephone session if that feels more manageable, or adjusting the pace of the work depending on what you are able to hold that day.

If you wake up on the day of a session and are feeling particularly unwell or unable to engage, please let me know as soon as you can, and we can look at rearranging for another time. I do not expect people to function at the same capacity every week. Fluctuation is part of many people’s reality, not a failure.

Can Sessions Be Flexible if I Have a Chronic Illness?

Yes. I understand that living with a chronic illness can mean energy, pain levels, concentration, mobility and overall capacity can fluctuate from day to day, sometimes unpredictably. Where possible, I aim to offer flexibility around this.

This may include:

Adjusting session frequency
Offering shorter or longer sessions where appropriate
Switching between in-person, video or telephone sessions
Allowing you to attend whilst resting or from bed
Working at a pace that feels manageable rather than overwhelming

I do not expect people to force themselves through sessions whilst pretending they are okay. The aim is to create support that works with your reality as much as possible, rather than expecting you to fit into a rigid model that ignores the impact of chronic illness on everyday life.

Do You Offer Text-Based Support?

At the moment, I primarily offer sessions via video call, telephone and in person.

However, I understand that some people find verbal communication difficult at times.
Where appropriate, some flexibility around communication can be discussed, such as using chat functions briefly during online sessions or adapting the way we communicate within sessions to make things feel more accessible and manageable for you.

If verbal communication feels particularly difficult for you, you are welcome to mention this when reaching out so we can explore what may feel supportive.

What If I Struggle With Eye Contact or Talking Openly?

That is completely okay. Not everyone communicates comfortably through direct eye contact, long conversations, or immediately opening up emotionally. For some people, eye contact can feel overwhelming, distracting, vulnerable or simply unnatural.

You do not need to force eye contact, sit perfectly still, explain yourself flawlessly or share everything straight away.

Some people speak very openly from the beginning.
Others take time to feel safe enough to slowly unpack things.
Some people communicate in fragments, pauses, humour, tangents or “I do not know” statements for a while before things become clearer.

All of that is welcome.

Can I Stim, Fidget, Walk Around or Keep My Camera Off?

You are welcome to move, stim, fidget, pace, use comfort items, doodle, sit under a blanket, adjust your position or engage in whatever helps you feel more regulated and comfortable during sessions.

What If I Need Breaks During Sessions?

Sometimes people need a pause during sessions to regulate, breathe, ground themselves, manage pain or fatigue, use the bathroom, get a drink, take medication or simply have a moment to settle.

You do not need to push through discomfort or ignore your body in order to continue talking. If you need to slow down, pause or take a break during a session, we can simply work around that together.
